Tsavorite is a rare Gemstone discovered in Tanzania in 1967, and is highly prized for its unique and particular green hue, which is quite unlike that of Emerald or Peridot. In terms of Gemstones Tsavorite is a relatively young, but exciting and beautiful stone, 200 times rarer than Emerald, cleaner, more brilliant, and displaying great luminosity even in small sizes.
It is technically a green grossularite, and belongs to the colourful Gemstone family of the Garnet, of which it is the most highly valued. Much beloved by Tiffany, who initially proposed its name, Tsavorite, its radiant green colour has an invigorating effect upon the senses.
Thanks to its great brilliance, Tsavorite is a match for the classic Ruby or Sapphire. Found in very few areas, experts believe that Tsavorite will become the next Demantoid : extinct and ultra rare.
